This is the Sugar Maple and it is known for the flame-coloured autumn leaves. In the early spring red flowers will appear and they are followed by distinctive winged seed pods. The new spring leaves appear bright green and will become a deeper shade of green in summer. You should plant in the spring or autumn in rich soil that is well drained. You will need to break up your soil to a fine texture so that the root system will spread easily; this will help the young tree to establish itself more quickly.
